Inspired by the light of our world and its point at creation according to Judaism. Otherwise known as Birkat Hachama, the sun has a 28 year cycle where it returns to the exact point of creation on a Tuesday (once every 28 years) The day this piece was designed in April 2009 was not only on Birkat Hachama but the extraordinary day of a lunar eclipse! Lots of great energy and gratitude for the sun went into this painting.

Note the next time the sun will return to the spot of creation will be on April 8, 2037.

This piece is dear to Richard’s heart in more ways than one. Designed with the study of energy flow, quantum physics and the work of The Heartmath Co., Richard wanted to capture the look of neurons firing from the brain with a heart in the middle, which has been determined to have a larger electromagnetic field than the brain. The suggestions that you should follow your heart may be quite sage advice now. Richard always trusts his heart when he paints and brings forth his vibrant color combinations from a place of love.

Designed for Richard’s brother, Michael, who is a Scorpio, this piece brings to mind the flow of the oceans and the earthy brown (ground) upon which the Scorpio plays.

This one was developed with the studies of Eastern Qi Gong and Western, Craniosacral Therapy. This piece is all about fluidity and the amazing power of water to exist and move in three (3) different states. Richard attempted to capture the energetic flow of water moving through ice crystals - liquid, water - vapor, steam. This is the movement of Qi or energy through what the Chinese call meridians in the body. Moreover, Richard wanted to portray the movment of cerebro-spinal fluid (CFS) through the spine, which Craniosacral therapy considers to be the regulator of optimum health in our bodies.

Painted after a stay in the hospital and painted not with my typical acrylics, but with the newness and freshness of gouche. Free in recovering to try something different. Amazingly, the painting turned out to look more like an oil than anything else! Earth tones abound here in celebration of healing and transformation.

This piece was a meditational one on the Tantras, or the esoteric traditions of Buddhism and Hinduism, which literally mean “loom, weave, system.” In Tantra, spiritual realization is a classic pictorial of the union between male and female. It is noteworthy to mention that the goddess energy is given a primary position in the creative force (eros) of the cosmos. And through tantra, women are traditionally the most influential and powerful teachers.

Inspired by The Milky Way’s Orion nebula, studied by scientists for the process of how stars and planets are formed from collapsing clouds of gas and dust. Orion is considered to be the birthplace of stars and seems to contain the basic components in colorful swirling vapor, of which humans are comprised!

It’s Richard’s feeling that as being made of the stuff of stars, where we begin is with conscious awareness. The essence of being - Conscious.

Configured in meditation with the appearance of Woodpeckers in trees on the property where I lived. Native American wisdom calls the woodpecker the drummer and the heart beat of the Earth. When woodpecker comes into your life, this wisdom also teaches that you can follow through with new rhythms and that you would be wise to listen to your own body to hear what it is telling you.

Visually this piece captures the collor and look of woodpecker feathers almost as if they arranged to form musical notes reflecting their “drumming” and the image in the lower left of the painting of a human embryonic heart from my studies in bio-dynamic craniosacral therapy. The heart , a new rhythm in time with the beat of this planet, Earth.

Music seems to hold a higher power and energy for Richard when he listens while he paints.

Listening to his favorites of Rock and Roll - Rush, U2, Boston, Foo Fighters, The Cult, Midnight Oil, Bon Jovi, Journey, etc. while painting this one. And finally naming these sacred spirals after Boston’s “Higher Power.”

Present and in touch with the earth, Richard spent the afternoon painting this piece barefoot on Long Island’s Sunken Meadow State Park.

The colors, textures and forms arise from Richard’s musing on a song by Matisyahu, which encourages the listener to live for the moment, the now and to take the past and “throw it in the fire.”

This piece has been featured twice on Long Island since its inception in conjunction with the Huntington Art Council’s gallery showings..

Quickly derived- Richard completed this one on his lunch hour in New York City contemplating the oncoming 5th Anniversary of 9/11.

The imagery is of the rainbow feathered phoenix rising from the black mass or ashes left from Downtown NYC on 9/11/01 and represents the strength of community coming together to heal and rise above challenging and tragic events.

This piece was featured digitally years later on the big screens in Times Sq.

ORIGINAL 2009 16”x20” (For Sale) - mixed media (acrylic and oil pastels) on Canvas.

A complete meditation on water as this one was conceived on Montauk Beach, Long Island, NY during Earth Day 2009, which also coincided with a New Moon., controlling tidal rhythms. Richard applied his paints with sea sponges rather than brushes to create the look and feel of the ocean. The feather was real, but has since “floated away.”

This work was featured at the Art Gallery on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA in 2016; as well as having been published sometime earlier in Franklin & Marshall College’s Alumni Arts Review.

This one is one of Richard’s many meditative pieces. On the day it was begun, Richard received a fortune cookie fortune which read: “Even in the greatest of confusion there is an open channel into the soul.” And, thus “Soul” was born. Although not intentionally, “Soul” seems to take after some of the German Abstract Artist, Gerhard Richter’s works, which others have made the comparison.

My first piece for 2019 after clearing unwanted energy and the negative repetitive thought processes from my mind. Repulsing the Monkey is a Qi Gong exercise to transform the hard and rigid structures of the mind into one of positive flow. Note the vertical lines, which represent the unwanted thoughts and the flowing spiral, which cuts right through it to bring the balance and clarity of mind, body and spirit.
